Welcome to the SoE TDM!

Due to the premise of the game, everyone on this testdrive must be the modern day reincarnation of the characters we all know and love. Please take a quick look at our navigation to familiarize yourself with the concept and setting of the game before you jump in.

If you have a relationship plotting post comment for your character (which is NOT mandatory to play in this tdm), please link to it when putting up a toplevel on the TDM. That way, other players can easily get an idea of what kind of character they will be tagging.

Other than that, you know the tdm drill - when commenting, please put your character's name and canon in the subject line, and write one or more threadstarters so others can tag you easily. Below, you'll find some prompts that you can use or discard at will to write those threadstarters.

After a long break, Save Our Earth is back in business!

First of all, I apologise for ghosting the game for so long. Between stress in my personal life and the real-life part of the world that provides the setting for SoE falling apart around our ears, things got a bit out of hand. BUT we'll be back up running now. There are a few minor changes that will hopefully address all issues with the background of the game and keep its nature as escapist pretendy funtimes in the face of... real life, really. I'll bulletpoint what's about to change.

1. We are going full AU.

The weird Brexit-kinda-isn't-happening Limbo that we were in just was very hard to deal with from a modding perspective. I hope this change upholds the will of the players to not have to deal with Brexit.

Full AU, in this case, means that up until December 2019, things actually were the same as in real life, Brexit proceedings were happening. But then the elections in December brought a coalition of Lib-Dems, SNP, Alliance (1 whole token Northern Irish MP) and Greens into power. Lib-Dems got the majority in England and Wales, SNP won Scotland by a landslide, and the Greens captured a couple of seats as well. The new Prime Minister is Nicola Sturgeon. The Mossgate seat is still held by Tory MP Mary Saunders because she wants the best for the constituency to the point where she ran on a platform of supporting a repeal of the decisions to trigger Article 50.

The first thing the new government did was to repeal the invocation of Article 50. Thus, the UK is back in the EU and things will start to heal. The new government has also pledged to strengthen the NHS by restoring funding and staffing.


2. The start of Season 2 will help us dodge Corona.

We were almost there anyway, so we'll fast-track the ending of Season 1. The events surrounding it will be backdated to the first half of January, back when Corona was still a thing considered to be roughly on the scale of SARS.

After these events, it seems like things have gone back to normal in Mossgate and the world. The Numbered are still Numbered, but that aside no strange events seem to occur. National and international news sources don't report anything out of the ordinary either - it's more of the same usual: Carnival in Rio, fighting in the near East, Trump said a dumb thing, Greece has too many refugees, an earthquake somewhere... and so on and so forth. Same old.

Same old? By April, keen-minded Numbered might notice that every single news item that they find on the internet, TV, the radio, or anywhere else, has indeed been there before. To the dot. Just with a different date.

Or perhaps they'll notice first that memes don't seem to develop anymore. Indeed, the memes that are floating around the internet all hype and apparently-new seem to be a year old if memory services well... but only memory can provide that information. Digging aroudn the internet will make it seem like they are new indeed.

These are the only signs that anything is out of the ordinary though - things in Mossgate are going forward the way they should. Everything is progressing as usual.

The answer is, though Numbered might take as long as they will to clue into it: Everything outside of the Echo Boundary is stuck in a time loop. With exception of national and international news, which are an amalgam of the ten years prior mixed so that they seem natural as taking place after mid-January of 2020, everything outside of the Echo Boundary is an exact repeat of what happened there a year prior. If this directly affects your character because they're communting or something along those lines, feel free to hit up Kira-mod to work out what that means for them specifically.


3. If you want to swap out your character or bring in someone new, now's the time.

During the month of April, our applications will be simplified. To stay in the game, every player must (barring extenuating circumstances - in such cases, please contact a mod) respond to the activity check. This is true for all characters, including those who were accepted after the 10th of the month.

• Every player must present an up-to-date info post (with specific attention to the echo list being up-to-date).
  
  
• We accept any tags made during the month of AC, no matter when the thread was started.
  
  
• To pass, any character who was accepted before the 10th of the AC month needs to present 10 comments or more across at least 3 different threads with at least 3 different player characters. There is no upper limit to how many threads with how many different characters can be used, but only one thread may be taken from an IC inbox. Characters who were accepted after the 10th of the month of AC still need to respond to the AC, but may put "new" in the activity section.
  
  
• All comments used for AC need to have been made during the month of AC (the relevant time is UTC). It is however irrelevant when the thread that they are from was started.
  
  
• If no sufficient comments can be presented, the character may be declared "on hiatus" for the month. If a character is declared "on hiatus" for the second month in a row, they will (unless extenuating circumstances apply, in which case: talk to a mod) be removed from the game.
  
  
• If thirty comments or more are presented, the character will get a "double echo token". These can be used to turn one echo into a double-effect echo (that is for example: instead of just receiving a memory from a recurrence, the character gains a memory and an item, two memories, or a power and an item). Fifty comments gain two DETs.
  
  
• The section that asks for plot actions helps us compile the plot digests. We sadly aren't omniscient and thus don't catch everyone's important realisations, discussions and actions, so it helps us a lot if you use it and tell us anything that you think might be relevant, even if you aren't sure if it is.
