PLOT DIGEST AND SETTING INTERACTIONS POST

Plotting posts are here to

serve as digests, to get everyone back up to speed with what is going on in the game by providing up-to-date information on plot and setting
provide a space to ask questions about interactions with the setting and plot
offer a venue where players can plot with the mods so that together we can make Save Our Earth as interactive as possible. Plot that has not yet happened is malleable; if player characters interact with it, it may just steer in a different direction from what the mods expected.

Please direct all questions, suggestions and anything else addressed to the mods to toplevel titled "Talk to a Mod" and not to the post in general.

The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.

General/OOC notes:

We are doing a backdated Season 1 Finale and once that's done we'll be heading into Season 2 plot-wise!
Simplified apps are a thing for all of April, so if you want to swap out a character or bring someone new in, now's the time!
Please respond to the Check-in with any and all characters that you wish to keep!

Events that occurred recently:

Sinkholes opened up in multiple places around the echo boundary, including on the graveyard in Moss Manor village. Pat Marsh and Mary Saunders task Russell (spaghettimonster) and Walter (iamnotgod) with checking out the tunnels via drone.
There were tiny sharks everywhere.
Jimmy (lovedramamoron) found dormice made of tin at the excavation site by the river and Sadie (dragoonrouge) had a vision when she touched them.

Events that will (potentially, pending player actions) occur in the future:

[Mingle] Mice are leading the numbered to the tunnels. Will they enter them? What will be inside? WHO KNOWS.
Mr Evil's planning something ...well, evil. He's definitely very busy out there on his secret villain lair in the Channel. Tons of sharks seem to be going forth and back. If players want to investigate, please hit up the mod contact toplevel below.
[Mingle] Season Finale will be a thing... But depending on player action it may take a few different forms.
[Mingle] At Easter there's a cue-hunt around town organized by the town museum, leading people through all kinds of historical sites.
[Mingle] On May Day there's a May parade led by the May queen (any female player character under the age of 25 can throw their hat in the ring for this, if they so want!), and there's Morris dancing as well as dancing around the Maypole.
[Mingle] In early June there's a marathon.

Potential Plot Echo Opportunities

Those who go down into the tunnels will most likely encounter a source of echoes.
Anyone who is involved with stopping Mr Evil's evil plan will receive a plot echo.
The first time that anyone leaves and re-enters the echo boundary after the end of Season 1, they will receive a plot echo (effective upon re-entry into the boundary).

Can we assume that Walter+Ben have sent a drone through the caves, as followup to this thread?
If so, when would it have happened?

You may!

They would have found that the tunnels reach much further inland and much further down than was previously assumed. At some point, however, there would have been so much stone and soil between them and the drone that the signal would have cut out. (They probably lost at least one drone to this, though that's up to you.)

They're not going to be heading the same direction as the lost drone, are they?

(I expect they're going down a more... functional, tunnel that whichever spot it lost signal in turned out to be, but it would be amusing if they did, as well as a way to retrace their path if the footage on it is recoverable.)

There are tons of tunnels, so they could head the same way or take a different route!

All tunnels will, if they follow them far enough down, eventually drop out of range of any above ground signal (Walter will actually find himself cut off from the internet eventually).

For the sake of threading, is it safe to assume the mice might lead to tunnels that a flexible adult human could move into?

At least once, Russell's going to hang out where Mr. Helpful once gathered them with binoculars or telescopes and scope out Mr. Evil's fort. Is there anything besides sharks visibly milling about?

Yes! They might not be great for claustrophobic people, but they're always ffah (fit for adult human)

Mostly visible is the massive shark activity directly around the fort - they're definitely patrolling. At times, sharks seem to head for the mouth of the river and go some distance upstream before turning around - they're fairly easy to spot, because their back fin always pokes out of the water (dun dun dun they need to be sufficiently obviously evillll).

He can't help but respect Evil's commitment to the aesthetic. The fort, the sharks, ~~the laser beams</strike... ...Uh. Up near the mouth of the river, like where Sadie found that echo?~~

Yes, there! Though they go a bit further up the river at times - they don't seem entirely sure of their direction.

As the various spelunkers convene on a giant mouse, I'd like to ask: is this a situation of a single tunnel leading to a single giant mouse, multiple tunnels leading to a single giant mouse, or multiple tunnels leading to multiple giant mice...?

I ask because I want to know if it's likely that the first few down there will run into others, or if there's a chance that they're finding a giant mouse independently.

Multiple tunnels leading to the same giant mouse! So if they start wandering around the mouse they might run into one another, but if the players so choose they could also never meet another Numbered down there.

Benjiro and Sadie have worked very hard to cultivate a secondary experience/potential life outside of the barrier by spending at and across the border. When they step out after the finale, how will their memory be affected on the other side?

Their memory won't be affected at all!

Only the memory of those who live outside of the echo boundary is affected.

Yaaaaaaas! \o/

That will be a relief.

Walter is already helping with the tunnel mice scenario, and he'll likely be coordinating to investigate Mr. Evil again as well.

Other than that, I am open to ideas!

Present and future plotting:

- Russell is following the mice into the tunnels, at least once, likely more than once. Since his first echo took place in the tunnels, and seems to have been about... living in them? Or maybe in some other caves? He feels a certain proprietary curiosity about them. Dangers and all. I'll be tagging the mingle soon!

- He's less enthusiastic about meddling with Mr. Evil, what with the ominous fort, the sharks, and everything else... But maybe that'll change, if he gets the right personality echo before then.

- Russell's been commuting by train to some job out of the echo boundary, and when the season finale comes may run into challenges from going to a job that he hasn't applied or interviewed for. We'll see how that goes, but if it does turn out he's seemingly been let go without warning, he will be complaining to friends and acquaintances about it.

- He's for sure participating in silly community things like the cue-hunt, especially since the historical angle gives an excuse (not that he's ever needed it) to dress up in some ridiculous costume (that hides most of the signs of his increased boniness).

- If they're still hiding their changes as of the marathon, he may realize he shouldn't participate... But it's entirely possible that he will, and between his blue magic and decreased body weight do astonishingly well in it. Whoops.

Past handwaving:

- Back on New Years Russell held a small alien-themed party, and invited all the Numbered he knows of - and ONLY the Numbered, so people with disguises could relax a bit. If you want to handwave that your characters joined him and Walter at their flat, please do so!
