PLOT DIGEST AND SETTING INTERACTIONS POST

Plotting posts are here to

serve as digests, to get everyone back up to speed with what is going on in the game by providing up-to-date information on plot and setting
provide a space to ask questions about interactions with the setting and plot
offer a venue where players can plot with the mods so that together we can make Save Our Earth as interactive as possible. Plot that has not yet happened is malleable; if player characters interact with it, it may just steer in a different direction from what the mods expected.

Please direct all questions, suggestions and anything else addressed to the mods to toplevel titled "Talk to a Mod" and not to the post in general.

The post is also open for players to plot and coordinate between one another.

General/OOC notes:

You have now encountered almost all NPCs of season 1, and thus we are solidly in the middle of the season. My current prediction is thus that Season 2 will begin sometime around the start of next year. This is relevant to you, the players, insofar as the season 2 directives will allow for changes that can't be hidden from the public. Characters will probably still want to stay hidden, but it won't be a game rule any more. No promises on the exact date, though!

Events that occurred recently:

At the museum, various people encountered Mr Evil and Mr Neutral. Nel befriended Mr Evil and Sadie adopted his cat, and Walter called the cops on him.
Everyone got lost items returned to them.
Everyone in the echo boundary was congratulated on having a mother.
Walter attempted to contact Mr Neutral using the network. Mr Neutral did not answer.
On Easter, all chicken and bunnies in the echo boundary were swapped. Sam tried and failed to do some tracking of the culprit and others speculated on who it might have been. Sadie helped Chad and Sam to at least figure out what scent to look for.
Mr Helpful was encountered by Sam, a group of people and Rune.
Some Numbered found cute little mice having been put in precarious situations by their pets.
Ben looked at some samples that he collected around the echo boundary and made preparations to examine the bay more closely.

Events that will (potentially, pending player actions) occur in the future:

[Mingle] Mr Helpful wishes to speak to the entirety of the Numbered. He wants to request their help.
[Can be observed at any time] All throughout this period, the Numbered will notice that there are dormice hanging around where they are... provided there are no cats or non-Numbered dogs nearby. They stick to the background and try to hide, but sometimes they slip up and can be spotted.
[Mingle] There's a community dig at the river. Archaeologists started excavating a stone age hillfort there earlier in the year and are now at a point where they're inviting everyone in the community to come and help them dig.
[No affiliated mod post] On the 24 Jul 2019 the schools summer holidays start. In universities the holidays start around the middle of June.

Potential Plot Echo Opportunities

Helping out Mr Helpful or otherwise engaging with his request may result in an echo.
Speaking to a dormouse for the first time. [Please speak to Kira if you want to play this out with an NPC.]
As always, sometimes plot echoes happen in surprising places when the right (or wrong, depending on your point of view) things get prodded.

How are we coordinating the follow-up log after the meeting with Mr. Helpful?

That is, both how soon ICly will we assume it to have taken place, and will it be a mod-started log or not?

I'm interested in having Russell be involved in the community dig, between its location and his vested interest in underground communities. Would it be appropriate / helpful for me to make a mingle post for it, for everyone interested to tag into?

If we dig in the river during the community dig, would they find anything?

Can you tell me a bit more about how they're planning to go about this? Are they just going to dig underwater, or are they going to try and create a dry area in which they dig? And are they really just going to do it during the nighttime?

The dig should be during the day, they'll be trying to create a dry area along the riverbank, and I'm not certain how deep they'll be digging but that's just me.

They will find that the fort seems to be extending into the river, though how far their dig can obviously not reveal.

Should they decide to dig deeper than a metre and a half, please get back to me.

Is there any discover-able trigger mechanism for the glitter, or do they just... explode when pressure is applied?

No discoverable trigger at all!

Planning / Plotting / Thoughts so far:

- Russell will at least hear out Mr. Helpful's request - he's still hoping to find out if one of these guys with the codenames is numbered, and the helpful one seems the most likely to answer. Whether he joins in will depend on the request, but he'll probably mingle.

- If Russell notices the dormice lurking about, he's gonna try putting out berries and nuts as gifts. Maybe they're just particularly mouse-shaped fairies, or something otherwise magic.

- Given that previous investigations into the river have led to echoes and strange findings, Russell's doubly interested in joining in the community dig. It's not just history, but the possibility of clues about the network happenings - and he'll probably encourage others to join in there.

(And there's a possibility for a recurrence echo for him personally, given Papyrus' time from an underground community filled with stone ruins. He's from an Empress Undyne ending, which means upping the guard and increasing the defenses, and that means renovating those old ruins.)

- Russell's birthday is during Pride Week this year, which is always a delight!

However, he may not be in the area the whole week: I'm gonna be test driving Audrey Redheart (Wandersong) as Haley Weekes - Walter's sister - in the next month or so. I'm hoping she'll feel good and playable, so I can app her in around the end of July / start of August, and hiatus Russell out of town on a visit to his sister.

(That way I won't have to worry about handwaving their meeting, and I'll be free to focus on getting her to meet people.)

He'll find more dormice hanging around his place if he gives them treats. Or rather, they'll stop trying to stay out of his sight and just openly hang around him. As long as nobody else is looking.

If they're watchful without invoking more echoes, he's satisfied with that.

Repeat encounters won't cause more echoes.
