First Test Drive Meme

Welcome to the SoE TDM!

Due to the premise of the game, everyone on this testdrive must be the modern day reincarnation of the characters we all know and love. Please take a quick look at our navigation to familiarize yourself with the concept and setting of the game before you jump in.

Feel also free to check out the AU Relationship Plotting Post, the place where you can ask the mods any question, no matter how dumb they feel, and our call for more app, echo or co-mods.

When putting up a toplevel on the TDM, please link to your character's relationship plotting post comment if you have one for them. That way, other players can easily get an idea of what kind of character they will be tagging.

Other than that, you know the tdm drill - when commenting, please put your character's name and canon in the subject line, and write one or more threadstarters so others can tag you easily. Below, you'll find some prompts that you can use or discard at will to write those threadstarters.

1. This is now our wonderful everyday

Being people living in our regular, modern world, people need to work or study, eat and commute, shop and relax... Just that all those regular, normal tasks can hold unexpected difficulties if you were just sitting at the tills at Tesco's, and this noseless customer suddenly made you remember the day you lost your parents. Or maybe you were getting some exercise, and running down the street you developed superspeed and have no idea how to control it yet...

2. How many times will they have to tell you?

Twice a year, there are guided tours through the tunnels under the cliffs east of Mossgate. Those tunnels, dug into the chalk throughout centuries or perhaps millenia, were built without a general plan, so their layout is an absolute confusing mess. On top of that, there are cave-ins and unsafe areas. It is strictly advised to not stray from your group, as people have been harmed because they got lost in them before. But you just had to get distracted, or perhaps think that it would be more fun to explore on your own, and now you are lost without a blip of signal to call for help with...

3. Call my number, baby

Somehow you have the number of another Numbered, but don't know whose it is. Why? Perhaps a friend is trying to set you up on a blind date, perhaps you got a slip of paper just saying 'call this person' - for whatever reason, you have it, and deadly curious as you are, you of course write it down...

4. Fun, fun, FUN!

At Mossgate's seaside, a Victorian pleasure pier extends about 40 metres into the sea. The platform at the end of the pier holds fairground rides such as a merry-go-round, a small rollercoaster and a helter skelter and along the pier kiosks sell candy floss, rock candy, roasted nuts and other goodies. A small distance down the street, a minigolf site can be found and on the street along the coast there are fish and chips shops, family-friendly arcades and souvenir shops. Maybe you are actually here for the fun, or maybe you just work here or are trying to track down a wayward friend...

5. History is calling, can I hang up?

Mossgate has a rich history, visible through two museums, the Moss Army Fort, the ruins on the cliffs, and Moss Manor. Most of these can be visited. And two idiots with a boat can get to the crumbling Sea Forts, too....

6. Wildcard

The obligatory "do what you want, we're not your mum" option.

"All right. Good." He starts pacing, phone held to one ear. "None of us seem to know what this thing is, or what it's for, besides talking to each other. I'm gonna guess you don't have any insight, either."

"Not a clue.

Aside from that I think that it comes with... other gifts." She frowns. "Have you gotten any memories, items or abilities that don't seem to be your own or you can't explain where they're from yet?"

"A bracelet," Sam answers, a bit irritably. "Pretty, like a couple of dragons with human faces. Nothing special." The fact that it makes him feel things is also irrelevant, and not something he wants to share just yet. "And a weird memory of flying. No plane, just me. You?"

"I can see life and ...basic emotional states, and similar things." She wouldn't tell anyone else about the latter, but she feels like with her father, it will hopefully be safe.

"And I remember a daughter that ...I don't have." That last bit is irritating, and she doesn't even try to mask the notion in her voice. She has enough children, and she really doesn't appreciate feeling guilty whenever she talks about them to someone and doesn't mention this stranger girl.

Okay, that's weird. Sam pauses to digest both of those. "So you're one of the ones who got... powers. Unless it's imaginary, and this is just making us see things that aren't real, too." He hasn't written that off, yet. The daughter thing... he's not going to comment on just yet.

"If it's imaginary, my imagination has a terrifying accuracy." She leans forward, resting her elbow against the desk and massaging her forehead with the heel of her hand.

"I've sent multiple people off to cancer screenings and similar tests because of things that I've seen in them now, and all who went and whom I heard of after were diagnosed with roughly what I saw."

That would've been his next line of questioning, whether she's tested it. And she has. He sighs, rubbing at his forehead, and resumes his pacing. "All right, so probably real, then. And useful, if inexplicable. The decision so far seems to be to hide these things-- to not freak anyone out and wind up with the government trying to kidnap us and study us. Does your wife know?"

"She knows about the network, but not about the other things. I figured it would be hard to hide." Close to impossible to hide, too. New friends, using media in odd ways... Things that anyone else might miss, but someone that knows her as closely and spends as much of her life with her as Janice would catch on to sooner or later.

"Then I guess you can tell her I'm on it now, too. Might as well stay above board on this with the family-- not the kids, though," he suggests. "Not yet, there's way too much we don't know, right now. Though if any of these changes are more drastic, might not be any way to hide it."

"I really hope that nothing will happen that we won't be able to hide." She sounds tired at that, and a bit resigned - if this continues for too long, she's sure that something will happen that can't be hidden.

"And I'll tell her. ...I don't think we should tell any family that doesn't live here, though." Her siblings, aunts, uncles, and so on. It will be easy to hide from them, and the fewer know, the better.

"Yeah, that's fine." Sam hardly has any family left who doesn't live here, so he's not too worried about it. He was an only child, himself, so the only aunts and uncles she'd need to worry about would be Janice's family.

He makes an annoyed noise. "We should get together for dinner. Talk this out in person."

"Sounds like a good idea." She can't let her patients wait much longer, anyway. "...Tomorrow night, at the Italian place opposite the Hive?"
